Once a scholar of the past, he became a would-be conqueror, convinced that he was destined to complete the unfinished work of empire. == Origin == José de Córdoba was a respected archaeologist and historian, known for his work uncovering lost sites of the early colonial era. His greatest discovery came with the unearthing of a long-rumored tomb belonging to a 16th-century Spanish conquistador said to have wielded supernatural power. Within the tomb, Córdoba found a remarkable cache of artifacts, including a suit of perfectly preserved armor and a sword embedded with strange, glowing crystals. The objects appeared untouched by time, as though waiting to be found. When Córdoba attempted to examine the sword more closely, it reacted. A surge of energy passed through him, overwhelming his senses. In that moment, he experienced vivid visions of conquest, dominion, and historical destiny. Whether these visions came from the weapon itself or from Córdoba’s own psyche remains unclear. What is certain is that they changed him. == Transformation == After the encounter, Córdoba’s worldview shifted dramatically. Where he had once studied history, he now saw himself as part of it—more than that, as its continuation. He came to believe that the conquests of the past had been interrupted, not concluded, and that it was his role to complete them in the modern age. Donning the armor and reforging the sword into a functional weapon, he took on the identity of Conquistador. The blade, now capable of channeling powerful electrical energy, became both symbol and instrument of his mission. To Córdoba, the modern world was weak, divided, and ready to be claimed. == The New Conquistadors == Conquistador gathered a group of mercenaries and followers whom he styled his “New Conquistadors.” Drawing on his deep knowledge of history, he organized his campaigns with an understanding of how power had been taken and held in the past. Rather than relying solely on force, he exploited cultural divisions, historical grievances, and fear, using them to destabilize his opponents before striking directly. His operations brought him into repeated conflict with Golden Age heroes, who opposed both his methods and his ideology. == Powers == Conquistador’s abilities derive from the artifacts he uncovered and the transformation they induced. * Superhuman Strength – Enhanced physical power * Electrical Weaponry – Sword capable of projecting arcs of energy * Augmented Durability – Reinforced by armor and transformation His power is tied closely to the relics he wields. == Skills == Even before his transformation, Córdoba was highly capable. * Extensive knowledge of history and cultural systems * Scientific training in archaeology and research methods * Skilled fencer * Strategic thinker with an understanding of conquest and control His intellect informs his actions as much as his power does. == Technology == Conquistador’s equipment blends ancient design with unusual properties. * Conquistador armor of unknown origin * Electrically charged sword enhanced by crystalline energy * Equipment used by his mercenary forces The exact nature of the artifacts remains uncertain. == Personality == Conquistador is charismatic, driven, and utterly convinced of his purpose. He does not see himself as a villain, but as a historical force correcting what he perceives as an unfinished process. He views resistance as inevitable but temporary, believing that history ultimately favors those with the will to shape it. His identity as José de Córdoba has been largely subsumed by the role he now inhabits. He is no longer studying the past. He is attempting to become it. == Legacy == Conquistador stands as a reflection of the dangers inherent in romanticizing history without understanding its cost. His transformation from scholar to conqueror illustrates how easily knowledge can be twisted into justification. In the Golden Age, he was one of several figures who blurred the line between relic and threat, bringing the past into direct conflict with the present. And in his mind, the conquest never ended. It was only waiting to begin again. </div> CCNav
