The old world did not entirely die. Some of its knowledge survived, but in broken hands, amidst broken morals. What remains is not enlightenment, but distortion: a body of secret arts, devices, procedures, and engines known as Forbidden Science.

It is feared. It is coveted. It has deformed the age.

Forbidden Science is neither conventional learning nor wizardry. It is the remnant of knowledge too powerful, too half-understood, and too corrupting to be safely used.

=== The Inheritance Of Ruin ===

Laboratories, vaults, archives, engines, and procedures survive from elder ages. Most cannot be replicated cleanly. Many are only partially understood. Some are alive in ways that no sane device should be.

=== The Scientists Of Granbretan ===

Granbretan has made the greatest use of Forbidden Science, though not the wisest. Its scientists are anatomists of cruelty, artificers of terror, and keepers of techniques that lesser powers scarcely dare name.

=== Masks, Engines, And Abominations ===

Forbidden Science creates and sustains:
* beast masks
* strange weapons
* war engines
* altered bodies
* captive intelligences
* relic devices of uncertain purpose

=== Forbidden Science In Play ===

In the game, Forbidden Science may appear as:
* Weird Science
* relics and devices
* experimental procedures
* lost laboratories
* unstable weapons
* terrible treasures best left buried
