== Background == Doctor Nathaniel Nova is one of the most important scientific figures in modern history and is widely regarded as the smartest human being on Earth. A legendary inventor, explorer, educator, and humanitarian, Nova’s influence on the modern world is difficult to overstate. Originally a professor at Pinnacle University, Nova achieved worldwide fame through a long series of revolutionary scientific breakthroughs. Among his greatest achievements was the invention of tritanium, an incredibly strong yet lightweight alloy that transformed aerospace engineering, advanced manufacturing, and superhero technology alike. Using his immense personal fortune, Nova founded the Nova Institute, a world-class center for scientific research and innovation. The Institute rapidly became one of the most prestigious scientific organizations on Earth, attracting brilliant minds from across the globe. Despite his accomplishments, Nova’s career has also been shadowed by tragedy. Among his former students at Pinnacle University was Michael Sargon, a gifted prodigy who eventually evolved into one of the greatest threats the world has ever known. Nova has long carried a personal sense of responsibility for Sargon’s fall into madness and villainy. In response to Sargon’s growing menace, Nova organized and funded a team of superheroes known as The Sentries. Under his guidance, the team defended the Earth against superhuman and scientific threats for many years and became one of the defining heroic organizations of the Silver Age. Later in life, a computer simulation based upon Nova’s personality and intellect was transferred into the systems of the starship Moonraker, vessel of the galactic superhero team known as The Liberators. This digital counterpart continues to assist the team in deep space operations long after Nova’s retirement from active public life. Nova’s legacy extends beyond science and superheroics. Schools, laboratories, scholarships, and civic institutions around the world bear his name, including Nathaniel Nova High School in Pacific City, California.
