== The Continuing Civil War ==

The Terror was eventually repulsed, but the empire did not recover. The destruction had exposed old rivalries, broken lines of succession, and discredited the central throne. With many gates damaged and several provinces isolated, the imperial houses began fighting for control of the surviving routes.

The resulting civil war continues across the Hundred Worlds. It is not one single front but a dozen overlapping conflicts: succession wars, provincial rebellions, military coups, dynastic vendettas, resource seizures, and ideological crusades. Some houses claim to restore the empire. Others seek independence. A few believe the old imperial system is doomed and that only a new order can prevent the Terror’s return.

The war is made stranger by the nature of the empire. Battles may be fought in alternate timelines, in artificial dimensions, on planets whose histories no longer agree with themselves, or along corridors where the failure of a single stabilizer could strand armies outside causality. A fortress may fall in one reality and still stand in another. A prince may die in one timeline and lead an army from the next.
