== The Lessons of the Temple Wars ==

Triadic tradition does not remember the Temple Wars as a glorious cleansing of error.

They are more often treated as a cautionary age in which religious success outpaced religious wisdom.

One saying associated with the period declares:

''“The Temples were won before the Faith was.”''
</blockquote>

Triadic institutions gained land, influence, courts, schools, and prestige before all their followers had learned how to wield that influence according to justice, mercy, and wisdom.

Later stories tell of commanders who refused to sack captured temples, Ardisian healers who tended opponents, Vannimari scholars who preserved the writings of defeated cults, and Inglorian priests who condemned seizures carried out under legal pretexts.

Other stories are less flattering.

Shrines were destroyed.

People were killed.

Property was stolen.

Local customs were dismissed arrogantly as superstition.

The Faith endured partly because later generations were willing to admit these failures rather than sanctify them.
