== Limitations ==

The platform’s greatest strength is also its most obvious vulnerability. At maximum height, Reuben Lipschitz is nearly three hundred feet above the machinery supporting him.

The extended stilts are vulnerable to concentrated attacks, entanglement, structural obstruction, sudden loss of footing, and extreme crosswinds. A sufficiently powerful impact against the operator capsule creates tremendous leverage at ground level. Even when the machine remains upright, the resulting oscillation can leave Hydraulic Man unable to aim or move effectively.

The platform is also poorly suited to enclosed spaces. Its compact configuration can operate indoors, but most of the system’s mass and complexity then provides no useful advantage. Confined underground, Hydraulic Man is essentially a heavily armored young man sitting atop two very expensive collapsed poles.

Hydraulic fluid loss is another continuing danger. The machine carries reserve fluid and can isolate ruptured sections, but every leak reduces its lifting capacity and response speed. Severe pressure loss can strand the capsule at height and force an emergency descent.

Finally, the machine requires constant maintenance. Its seals, collars, lines, sensors, and polished cylinder surfaces operate under stresses far beyond ordinary industrial tolerances. Reuben rebuilds large portions of the stilt assembly after nearly every major confrontation.
