== Faith in Rhess ==

Both the [[Sigil:Old Faith|Way of Sun and Stars]] and the [[Sigil:Triadic Faith|Triadic Faith]] have deep roots in Rhess, though their balance differs considerably by region.

The Old Faith remains strongest in the Highlands, where household rites, ancestral remembrance, sacred springs, standing stones, hilltop observances, and customs tied to wind, stars, hearth, and season persist openly. These practices are not ordinarily organized through the sort of priesthood familiar in Merant. They belong to households, Crafters, wise folk, traditional keepers, and communities whose rituals may be older than Rhess itself.

The Triad became increasingly influential in the Lowlands and towns, where its teachings of justice, mercy, and wisdom were easily interpreted through the national memory of Grimyr's rebellion. Rhessan Triadic teaching often emphasizes liberation from oppression and the responsibility of free people toward one another.

Grimyr himself occupies an ambiguous place between history and devotion. Many ordinary Rhessans call him the '''Saint of Freedom''', though no authority in Merant has formally made such a declaration and, more importantly, no such authority would possess the power to make the title binding upon the wider Faith.

Highland Old Faith adherents occasionally find the entire discussion amusing.

Whatever their religious differences, nearly all Rhessans recognize the Oath of Ashes. It has become a civic sacred text shared by people who may agree on little else.
