== Faith of Wave and Coin ==

Triadic temples stand in Skell, Redmark, and other substantial Doran settlements, and the Powers are recognized throughout the realm, yet island religion has never fitted comfortably into the more orderly traditions favored by mainland clergy. Doran sailors carry blessings, amulets, family customs, old sea observances, fragments of Triadic teaching, and traditions acquired in foreign ports without feeling much need to determine which belong within a coherent theological system.

One of the most persistent figures in maritime tradition is the '''Lady Below''', to whom sailors may offer a coin, a cup of wine, a little oil, or the first portion of a catch before a dangerous passage. The Dorans themselves do not agree about what the Lady Below actually is. Some identify the name with one of the Powers under an old maritime title, others consider her an Eidra or guardian of the deeps, while many sailors regard theological precision as an excellent occupation for people who are safely ashore.

What matters in practice is the custom: the sea should not be treated with arrogance, debts should be acknowledged, and those who travel upon deep water should remember how little stands between them and death.

Many vessels also carry small '''luck-idols''' fashioned from driftwood, bone, carved shell, or scraps of old ships. Such objects may represent ancestors, Powers, legendary captains, sea creatures, or nothing that can be explained coherently. Clergy have periodically attempted to regularize these practices, but generations of Doran priests have learned that accommodating harmless custom generally produces more genuine devotion than declaring war upon every carved piece of driftwood aboard the fleet.
