== Does Korda Love His Duty? ==

Grey theologians have argued for centuries over whether Korda loves the work appointed to him.

There is no answer.

Some traditions describe him as serene, understanding his task as an honor entrusted to him from an age beyond mortal memory. Others imagine him as profoundly sorrowful, forever meeting people at the moment they have lost everything familiar and knowing that he cannot return them to those who remain alive.

The old hymn tradition sometimes suggests that even the Keeper becomes weary but never abandons his post.

This possibility has made Korda particularly beloved among people whose own lives are defined by necessary work they did not choose: the parent sitting beside a sick child, the soldier standing watch in rain, the gravedigger breaking frozen earth, the healer who has lost another patient.

Duty does not require pleasure.
