== War == War is deeply embedded in Uragh culture, but their methods reflect the landscape. The Uragh are '''foot-fighters, not foot-bound'''. Torraks give the clans excellent strategic mobility across the open country. Scouts, messengers, raiders, herd-guards, and some specialist warriors fight or travel mounted, while large warbands may ride for days before dismounting to form for battle. The traditional Uragh view is that a serious fight should be met upon one's own feet. Thus the main host commonly leaves its mounts behind the battle-line with handlers, takes up shield and spear, and advances on foot. Chiefs may ride during the approach or to direct movement, but many dismount when the fighting begins. This custom is partly practical. A formed body of Uragh infantry is difficult cavalry country: long spears, broad shields, disciplined forward movement, and warriors accustomed to holding their ground. It is also cultural. Enduring the enemy face-to-face is regarded as a test of courage in a way that striking from the back of an animal is not. Uragh armies therefore combine two qualities outsiders often assume are incompatible: exceptional mobility across the plains and a battlefield tradition centered upon infantry. Their warbands carry relatively little and rely upon endurance, local knowledge, clan logistics, herd support, and the ability to move where road-bound armies cannot. Common weapons include: * long-hafted spears; * broad hide shields; * short curved blades; * bows and hunting weapons; * heavy knives and tools easily carried on the march. Armor tends toward leather, hide, quilted protection, mail where available, and other equipment that does not compromise mobility. Mounted Uragh most often serve as scouts, messengers, flankers, raiders, and pursuers rather than as a massed cavalry arm.
