== War in the High Kingdom ==

Merant is not a populous realm and cannot field armies comparable in size to those of Angharais or Sarrivel. Its military reputation rests instead upon disciplined religious orders, hardened mountain troops, defensible terrain, and the unusual integration of war with the kingdom's moral institutions.

Several martial traditions are especially prominent, including the '''Order Militant of Inglorian''', the '''Knights of the Flame''', and the '''Sunbound Companies'''. Their soldiers favor disciplined infantry, fortified passes, trained officers, and close support from healers and chaplains. White and scarlet cloaks, gilded bronze fittings, and the Threefold Sun appear frequently among their ceremonial equipment.

The Meranti preference is not for war as an end in itself. In theory, violence must serve justice and remain constrained by mercy and judgment. In practice, Merant is capable of producing zealots as readily as saints, and its certainty can become as dangerous as another realm's greed or pride.

This tension has become particularly visible during the Crusades against the Vorghol.
