== Discovery ==

Soon after taking ownership of his brownstone and [[Elysium Electronics|electronics store]], [[Manhunter|Cyrus Kempf]] discovered that both properties sat above a forgotten piece of Brooklyn history: an abandoned station belonging to an experimental pneumatic subway line. The station and its tunnels had been sealed since the nineteenth century, left off most modern maps, and forgotten by nearly everyone except a few transit historians, city engineers, and old municipal files.

The old station had not aged gracefully. The platforms were choked with dust, rust, broken tile, rotting woodwork, collapsed maintenance access, corroded pipework, and the remains of machinery whose function was no longer obvious. The pneumatic tube line itself had long ago been cut off from any official transit system. By ordinary standards, it was useless.

To Cyrus, it was perfect.

A retired military man, skilled technician, and determined do-it-yourselfer, Cyrus recognized the value of a large, hidden, structurally sound underground space beneath his own property. What others would have seen as a hazard, he saw as a foundation.
