== Background ==

Kris Kringle was born outside the oppressive industrial settlement known as Sombertown in the late 19th century, an era marked by hardship and rigid authority. Orphaned at a young age, he was taken in by the Kringle family, skilled toymakers who instilled in him both craftsmanship and a sense of generosity that would define his life.

His early attempts to bring joy to the children of Sombertown—distributing toys to those who had none—brought him into conflict with local authorities, who declared his actions unlawful. Rather than abandon his efforts, Kringle persisted, aided in part by a local wizard and by a resourcefulness that would become legendary.

Over time, his work expanded beyond the confines of the town, his reputation spreading far beyond what could reasonably be contained by geography or law.
