== The Ancient Shadowlords ==

Long before the modern galactic powers arose, the Shadowlords ruled enormous portions of known space from hidden citadels suspended in the dark regions between stars. Accounts of their civilization survive only in fragmented myths, forbidden records, and the half-mad testimony of species that encountered them in antiquity.

The Shadowlords were creatures of immense psionic capability. They did not build empires through conventional warfare alone, but through domination of thought, emotion, and will itself. Entire civilizations surrendered to them without firing a shot, overwhelmed by the psychic majesty of beings they perceived as divine.

To lesser species, the Shadowlords appeared eternal, invincible, and utterly beyond mortal understanding.

In many ways, they were.

Yet immortality proved to be their undoing.
