== Background ==

Dinah Davis began her career as a Boston police officer, distinguished by a reputation for persistence, discipline, and a willingness to follow cases beyond their obvious conclusions. That instinct led her into an investigation involving the theft of several occult artifacts from a museum, items that had remained largely unexplored since their recovery during the Golden Age.

Those artifacts had once belonged to [[Crucible:Templar|Mark Masters]].

Davis tracked them down and recovered them, expecting to close the case and return to her regular duties. Instead, her actions triggered the same ancient mechanism that had once chosen Masters. A spectral figure, described as a medieval knight or guardian, appeared to her and made the nature of the relics clear: the Knights Templar had never ceased their work, and their power persisted through chosen successors.

Davis was not offered the mantle so much as confronted with it.

She accepted, fully aware that doing so would alter the course of her life.
