== Living Principles ==

It is tempting to describe the Powers as gods ''of'' particular things: a god of war, a goddess of healing, a god of knowledge. Such language is convenient, but it badly understates them.

[[Sigil:Ardis|Ardis]] is not simply a goddess who happens to supervise healing. She is associated with healing because '''mercy, compassion, preservation, renewal, and care''' are central to what she is.

[[Sigil:Inglorian|Inglorian]] is not merely the patron of warriors or kings. His concern is '''justice, courage, duty, rightful strength, and the proper exercise of authority'''.

[[Sigil:Vannimar|Vannimar]] is not simply the keeper of books. Vannimar embodies '''wisdom, memory, inquiry, understanding, and the difficult search for truth'''.

The same principle applies to all the Powers. Natural phenomena may become associated with them through culture, symbolism, or ancient experience, but a Power is never merely the celestial owner of a particular object or activity.

The Powers are ideas made conscious.
