== Yan Doro in the Age of the Comet ==

The Age of the Comet finds Yan Doro prosperous, contentious, and more important to mainland affairs than many mainland rulers care to admit. The wars surrounding Tael Neydra have disrupted older patterns of commerce, military demand has increased the value of shipping and supplies, and the price of moongold has risen as wealthy houses seek portable stores of value during uncertain times. Every political crisis creates new opportunities for merchants, smugglers, privateers, mine speculators, and captains willing to carry valuable cargo through dangerous waters.

Queen Mereth must therefore balance immediate profit against longer consequences. Sarrivel remains both rival and partner, Calael watches the Crimson Coast closely, Mazirin seeks commercial advantage wherever instability permits it, and foreign investors press constantly for access to new mines. The Red Reavers exploit every gap created by distracted governments, while rumors of undiscovered moongold deposits continue to send expeditions beyond Doran waters into parts of the Sunscatter where the Crown can offer neither protection nor rescue.

The uncertainty suits Yan Doro better than it would many kingdoms. Its people have never expected the world to remain still merely because governments would find that convenient. They live among islands whose coastlines change beneath storms, work mines where stone can shift without warning, sail waters where a familiar reef can destroy an inattentive captain, and conduct politics in a realm whose authority ends somewhere beyond its last dependable harbor.

For the Dorans, order is neither illusion nor absolute. It is something maintained where people possess the will, wealth, ships, and good sense to maintain it, while beyond those limits the sea remains what it has always been.
