As fear of [[Crucible:Parahumans|parahumans]] intensified during the Silver Age, governments and institutions across the world increasingly targeted superhuman individuals with surveillance, discrimination, detention policies, and outright violence. Gray witnessed growing hostility toward people like himself even while serving publicly as a hero.

The contradiction poisoned him.

Over time, Lucius Gray became convinced that peaceful coexistence was impossible and that humanity would ultimately destroy parahumans unless forced to submit. His rhetoric grew harsher, his methods more ruthless, and his relationships with former allies increasingly strained.

Eventually he abandoned the identity of Sunbolt entirely.
