== History ==

Pacific City began as a Spanish colonial settlement built around a mission, harbor, and fortified trading post. Its early economy depended on ranching, coastal trade, fishing, shipping, and later rail connections that tied it to the rest of California. After American annexation, the town expanded steadily, benefiting from its harbor and its position between the state’s two larger metropolitan poles.

By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Pacific City had become a serious center of shipping, manufacturing, finance, and technical education. Its universities and engineering schools gave it a scientific culture earlier than many comparable cities. During the great wars and industrial expansions of the twentieth century, Pacific City became important for naval logistics, aircraft components, electronics, and precision manufacturing.

In the modern era, the city has become a hub for advanced technology, biomedical research, aerospace systems, clean energy, robotics, media, and metahuman-related legal and scientific work. Its economic power is not as vast as Los Angeles or San Francisco, but its influence is often out of proportion to its size.
