'''Stayfolk''' are Tobon who have made a lasting home in one place.

Their communities range from scattered farmsteads and roadside hamlets to neighborhoods within larger Rhone towns and cities. Some settlements are overwhelmingly Tobon. Others consist of only a handful of extended families living among their taller neighbors.

Stayfolk are farmers, gardeners, herders, millers, brewers, innkeepers, craftspeople, merchants, laborers, healers, cooks, scribes, carters, and anything else their circumstances require.

The hearth matters deeply in Stayfolk life, but not because Stayfolk are timid homebodies.

A hearth represents continuity.

Someone planted these trees. Someone dug the well. Someone laid the first stones of the house. Someone knows which field floods after three days of rain and which neighbor can be trusted to help deliver a calf at midnight.

A family that remains in one place for generations accumulates knowledge of that place.

Stayfolk pride themselves upon such knowledge.

Wanderfolk sometimes call it knowing everything about nowhere.

Stayfolk have several answers to this.

Most are impolite.
