== The Powers in the Old Faith ==

The Way does not deny the [[Sigil:Powers|Powers]] and never did. [[Sigil:Ardis|Ardis]], [[Sigil:Inglorian|Inglorian]], [[Sigil:Vannimar|Vannimar]], [[Sigil:Korda|Korda]], [[Sigil:Rhughash|Rhughash]], and countless older or more local names can all find places within its religious world. What distinguishes the Old Faith is its reluctance to arrange them into a single exclusive system.

A Power is immensely more than a river spirit, but this does not make the river unreal or religiously meaningless. A family may honor Ardis during sickness, remember Korda at a burial, pour the first cup of cider beside an ancestral stone, and leave a ribbon at the spring from which the household has drawn water for generations. None of these acts requires abandoning the others.

This is one reason the later rise of the [[Sigil:Triadic Faith|Triadic Faith]] never entirely displaced the Way. The Triad could claim the courthouse, school, hospice, and great urban sanctuary more easily than it could claim every doorstep, well, planting field, burial hill, and midsummer fire. The old religion lived in habits rather than institutions.

The Triad eventually became the dominant moral language of much of the Rhone world, but the Way remained beneath it like an older road still visible through newer paving.
