As Black Sun, Gray became one of the most dangerous superhuman extremists of the late Silver and Bronze Ages. Using his immense powers, scientific genius, and public notoriety, he launched a campaign of attacks intended to force recognition of parahuman rights through fear and overwhelming force.

To supporters, Black Sun was a revolutionary driven to desperate measures by persecution.

To the world at large, he became a terrorist.

Black Sun’s operations ranged from attacks on anti-parahuman institutions to mass acts of intimidation and catastrophic energy assaults that left entire regions devastated. His conflict with former teammates in [[Crucible:The Crusaders|the Crusaders]] became one of the defining tragedies of the era.

His ideology would later inspire more radical organizations such as [[Crucible:Factor M|Factor M]], who viewed Black Sun as both martyr and prophet.
