== Isolation In Orbit ==

Korolev spent increasingly long periods aboard orbital research facilities and prototype space habitats, where low gravity allowed him temporary relief from the deterioration ravaging his body.

Unfortunately, the prolonged isolation had catastrophic psychological effects.

Cut off from ordinary human contact and surrounded by the cold silence of space, Korolev developed a growing contempt for the planet below. Earth came to seem primitive, chaotic, and spiritually suffocating compared to the vast purity of orbit.

Eventually he stopped viewing himself as part of humanity at all.

Instead, he declared himself master of near-Earth space.
