== The Tornado ==

Shamrock’s path repeatedly crossed that of [[Crucible:Maximilian Hellstrom|Major Maximilian Hellstrom]], whose exploits had made him famous throughout the Allied world as '''the Tornado'''.

The pairing was initially regarded as unlikely. Hellstrom favored violent disruption, audacious improvisation, and plans that frequently depended upon the enemy being unable to believe anyone would attempt them. Shamrock preferred careful infiltration, quiet preparation, and retaining at least one means of escape.

In practice, they complemented one another almost perfectly.

Hellstrom could turn an entire installation toward himself while Shamrock passed unnoticed through its defenses. Shamrock could place Hellstrom precisely where his talent for controlled chaos would have the greatest effect. Each understood what the other was about to do, even when neither had taken the time to explain it.

Their partnership was also famously contentious.

The attraction between them was apparent to nearly everyone who encountered them. So were the arguments, insults, professional rivalry, and calculated efforts by both parties to pretend that no attraction existed.

Shamrock was among the few people entirely unimpressed by the legend of the Tornado. She knew when Hellstrom was improvising, recognized when he was frightened, and understood that much of his swagger was theater employed against enemies, superior officers, and occasionally himself.

When the public called him the Tornado, she called him Max.

When she particularly wished to annoy him, she called him '''Maximilian'''.
