== Light, Shadow, and Balance ==

The Powers do not divide neatly into gods and devils.

Some embody qualities mortals cherish. Others embody forces mortals fear. Yet the cosmos is not arranged as a war between two divine armies.

The Powers exist in tension.

Mercy without judgment may become indulgence. Justice without mercy becomes cruelty. Courage without wisdom becomes recklessness. Desire may inspire greatness or consume everything around it. Even destruction has its place, for a world in which nothing can end would become a horror of another sort.

This is why the so-called [[Sigil:Shadow Court|Shadow Court]] must be understood carefully.

Its Powers may be terrible.

Their worshippers may be monstrous.

But darkness is not a foreign substance invading creation. It belongs to the same moral world as light.

What mortals do with these Powers—and what they allow those Powers to awaken within themselves—is another matter entirely.
