== A Place Between Worlds == Decades later, the sorceress [[Arcana]] investigated Castle D'Image and discovered the truth was stranger than rumor. The castle stood at a place where the boundaries between worlds had become dangerously thin. Certain rooms did not always open onto the same corridors. Reflections moved independently of those who cast them. Doors appeared during storms. Shadows gathered in corners where no object stood to cast them. Arcana concluded that the disappearance of Blaise D'Image and the library had not been an ordinary vanishing. The castle had touched, opened, or been opened by something beyond Earth. The D'Image collection may have been drawn into another dimension, stolen by an extradimensional intelligence, or deliberately removed by Blaise himself during a failed ritual of enormous scale. Whatever happened, the event left the castle unstable. Arcana placed magical guards and wards throughout the estate to protect Boston from whatever might emerge through the weakened barriers. These protections were subtle rather than obvious: seals under thresholds, sigils carved behind stonework, charms buried at the four corners of the estate, and invisible locks set upon rooms that no longer obeyed ordinary geometry.
