== The Shadow Court ==

The phrase '''Shadow Court''' belongs primarily to Iron Covenant theology and later religious classification. Covenant priests grouped the Powers they regarded as harshest, most demanding, or most closely associated with trial beneath this name and treated them collectively as the powers through which mortal strength was refined. Older writings sometimes describe the Shadow Court as if it were an actual divine assembly with thrones, ranks, and jurisdictions.

No evidence requires that interpretation.

The Powers themselves have never demonstrated much interest in conforming to mortal charts of divine government. Kuralkar, Kursa, and Szilard differ profoundly in nature, and Szilard may not even belong in the same taxonomy at all. The Shadow Court is therefore best understood as a Covenant theological construction: a useful window into how Iron Priests interpreted the world, not a reliable map of how the Powers organize themselves.

This distinction became increasingly important after the rise of the Triad, whose scholars subjected old Covenant cosmology to criticism without necessarily denying the Powers named within it. A religion may accurately recognize a divine presence while misunderstanding almost everything about its relationship to other beings.
