== Extensible Stilt Assembly ==

The machine’s defining feature is its pair of multistage telescoping hydraulic stilts. Each leg contains a sequence of nested, double-acting cylinders that extend one after another from the compact armored housings beneath the capsule.

The inner surfaces are polished to extremely fine tolerances. Pressure seals, guide bearings, and load-locking collars surround each stage. When a section reaches its assigned length, the collars engage automatically and convert the extended cylinder from a moving hydraulic component into a rigid structural member.

The legs can stop at intermediate heights rather than extending fully. Normal operating configurations range from approximately seventy-five feet to one hundred fifty feet, with full deployment approaching three hundred feet. Height can be adjusted in increments of roughly eleven feet, allowing Hydraulic Man to match surrounding rooftops or step across uneven terrain.

Flexible internal galleries carry pressurized fluid, power, sensor data, and control signals through the full length of each leg. These lines must extend and retract without binding, twisting, or being crushed between cylinder stages. Lipschitz regards the routing system as one of his finest inventions.

Because each stilt is controlled independently, the machine can alter its stance, change height while walking, step over buildings, or compensate for substantial differences in ground elevation.
