Most Megatrons were remotely operated or semi-autonomous. Brainwave could direct them from a hidden base, mobile command unit, or fortified laboratory while remaining out of reach. The robots were also capable of following programmed attack routines if communications were disrupted.

Their intelligence was limited compared to true artificial beings. A Megatron could identify targets, navigate streets, respond to attacks, and execute tactical commands, but it did not possess independent personality or judgment. This limitation sometimes worked against Brainwave. Unity League members learned to confuse the robots, lure them into traps, or exploit rigid behavioral patterns.
