== Ais Cambrai ==

The capital of Angharais is [[Sigil:Ais Cambrai|Ais Cambrai]], built upon a broad island in the mighty [[Sigil:Ais River|Ais River]].

The island, commonly called '''Big Brother''', is nearly filled by the city. Hemmed in by water, Ais Cambrai has grown upward rather than outward, its towers, bell-spires, warehouses, temples, residences, and fortifications crowding the riverbanks.

The city is simultaneously:

* the seat of the Crown;
* a major river port;
* a fortress commanding the Ais;
* a center of trade;
* and one of the great sacred cities of the Triadic Faith.

Three great bridges connect it to the surrounding country:

* the '''Sunbridge''';
* the '''Moonbridge''';
* the '''Starbridge'''.

Together they are known as the '''Triune Path''', each bridge associated with one of the Three.

The city's principal quarters include '''Deepside''', with its warehouses and shipwrights; '''Anchorage''', home to merchants, mariners, markets, and taverns; and the '''Esplanade''', whose cloisters, libraries, colleges, and gardens give it a quieter character.

At the southwestern end of the island stands the fortified '''Citadel'''. Within it rises the '''Cedar Palace''', residence of the High King and visible symbol of the alliance between Crown and Faith.

At the center of Ais Cambrai stands the '''Cathedral of the Three Lights''', greatest sanctuary of the Triad in Angharais.

Across the southern bridge lie the '''Festival Fields''', where great markets, processions, assemblies, and tournaments are held.

Downstream lies the smaller island settlement of '''Ais Dourai''', known affectionately as '''Little Brother'''.
