== Bats at Noon ==

The bat is Kursa's most famous animal association, and the phrase '''bats at noon''' has passed into ordinary speech. Bats belong to twilight and darkness; their appearance beneath the midday sun creates the unsettling sense that something private has crossed into the open. A ruler who abruptly abandons office, a celebrated warrior who collapses after the war has been won, or a prosperous household suddenly shuttered may prompt someone to murmur that there are bats at noon.

The omen need not imply direct supernatural intervention. Like much religious language in the Sigil Lands, it has become a way of describing human experience through the imagery of the Powers.

Other Kursan omens carry the same theme of visible form emptied of expected meaning. Wine turns bitter while remaining otherwise unchanged. Lamps continue burning but give no warmth. Familiar music produces no pleasure. These images express despair better than spectacular destruction would. Everything appears intact, yet something essential has gone missing.

This is the character of Kursa's influence. She does not always destroy.

Often she hollows.
