''KARGAN THE WANDERER #1'' was published by Crucible Comics in 1973 during the Bronze Age sword-and-sorcery boom. Though created as part of the era’s barbarian revival, Kargan quickly developed a distinct identity through his northern culture, quiet moral code, and refusal to become a conqueror.

The original color comic was followed in 1974 by the prestige black-and-white magazine ''WINTER'S BITE'', which expanded the Three Empires setting and introduced Sabella in its backup feature.

In June 2026, Crucible revived the character in a modern prestige series titled ''KARGAN THE WANDERER'', beginning with the story arc '''Circle of Blood'''. The revival reintroduced major villains and unresolved mysteries from the 1970s material while treating Kargan as one of the earliest heroic figures in Earth-11717 mythology.
