== Compact Footpads ==

The machine’s feet are compact articulated footpads rather than the enormous foundations normally required to support a structure of comparable height. Their small size is necessary for urban movement but places extraordinary demands on their traction and stabilization systems.

Each foot includes articulated stabilizer toes, traction spikes, ground radar, load sensors, and shock isolation. The pads continuously adapt to pavement, rooftops, sloped surfaces, and debris. Their mechanical toes can spread to improve stability or contract when Hydraulic Man must place a foot within a narrow space.

The footpads do not distribute weight gently. Asphalt cracks beneath them, utility lines are frequently damaged, and even an apparently careful step can impose tremendous point loads on a street or roof. Lipschitz’s assurances that the machine is “perfectly safe” should therefore be treated with suspicion.
