The '''Northerlings''' are among the clearest surviving heirs of the older Rhone nomadic traditions. They range through the steppes and pine country of the north, following herds and seasonal routes rather than the borders drawn on southern maps.

Many are dark of skin and hair. Their camps rise and disappear with the seasons, and horsemanship is learned early. Their wealth travels with them: animals, tools, weapons, tents, harness, remembered routes, obligations, and the reputation of the household.

The Northerlings retain strong traditions of the [[Sigil:Old Faith|Old Faith]]. '''Busc the Hunter''', an avatar of [[Sigil:Inglorian|Inglorian]], is particularly revered, while smoke rites, bone casting, dreams, and other old practices remain part of religious life.

Southern Rhone sometimes call them primitive because they do not build cities.

Northerlings generally regard this as evidence that southerners have confused masonry with wisdom.

A person who can find water in bad country, judge weather from the wind, keep a herd alive through winter, and bring a household safely across hundreds of miles possesses skills that no palace education can replace.
