Despite the prominence of books in Vannimari imagery, the Knower is not a Power of book-learning alone.

Experience is also a teacher.

So are mistakes.

So are other people.

A sailor who has survived forty years at sea knows things no academy can easily teach. A midwife may recognize danger before a physician finds the correct term for it. A Gholibin memory-song may preserve information more reliably than a poorly copied manuscript. A Seylandri listener may understand a living forest in ways that make a Rhone natural philosopher's categories seem laughably crude.

The wise therefore listen across boundaries.

Vannimari scholars have historically been among the Triadic clergy most willing to study foreign customs, older faiths, and unfamiliar peoples, though curiosity has not always prevented arrogance.

The ideal remains clear:

Study the book.

Then look up from it.
