== Ancestors and the Dead ==

Ancestor reverence is deeply woven into the Way but should not be mistaken for the belief that every dead relative becomes a powerful spirit haunting the family property. The dead are remembered because relationships do not become meaningless simply because one participant has died. Names, stories, inherited tools, old quarrels, obligations, recipes, songs, and warnings all continue shaping the living.

Some families maintain ancestral stones or small shelves of objects belonging to the dead. Others speak names during Frostwane, pour the first drink onto the earth, or keep an empty place during a particular annual meal. A household may believe an ancestor occasionally visits in dream without expecting the dead to remain permanently near the living.

The Way's ancestor customs coexist comfortably with Kordan belief precisely because they address different questions. Korda concerns the passage of the dead toward what the Rhone call the [[Sigil:Far Fields|Far Fields]]. Ancestor tradition concerns what the living continue to owe, remember, and inherit.

The dead may have gone on.

Their stories have not.
