CCHeader <div class="codex-page codex-page--crucible-comics cc-page--location"> = Aaloch = Aaloch is a vast subterranean world buried hundreds of miles beneath the Earth’s surface, a labyrinth of caverns so immense that whole forests, lakes, rivers, cliffs, and hunting grounds exist beneath stone ceilings lost in darkness. To the people of the surface, it is not merely hidden but almost impossible: a lost interior realm, sealed away from ordinary history and known only through myth, accident, and the rarest passages through the deep Earth. The caverns of Aaloch are not entirely dark. They are illuminated by drifting clouds of phosphorescent spores, which float freely through the cavern air like slow green-gold stars. These spores gather in shimmering veils along the cavern roofs, settle in luminous carpets across stone terraces, and cling to the bark of immense fungal growths. Their glow gives Aaloch an eerie, dreamlike twilight, bright enough to travel and hunt by, but never bright enough to feel like day. In the deepest hollows, whole valleys shine with blue and violet radiance, as if the night sky had been buried underground. Tens of thousands of years ago, during the Ice Age, animals and early humans found their way into Aaloch through immense sinkholes, volcanic tubes, and glacier-carved passages that have long since collapsed or been forgotten. Cut off from the surface world, they survived and changed in isolation. Aaloch remains home to living macrofauna from the prehistoric past, including mastodons, giant ground sloths, saber-toothed predators, terror birds, cave bears, and other creatures believed extinct everywhere else on Earth. These beasts roam vast fungal plains and underground forests, following ancient migratory paths beneath the world. The human peoples of Aaloch live at a pre-medieval level of material technology. They make tools of stone, bone, copper, hide, and worked fungal fiber, and they dwell in cliff settlements, cavern villages, and fortified temple-holds carved into the living rock. Yet they are not primitive in the ordinary sense. The civilizations of Aaloch rely heavily on highly developed psionic disciplines, passed down through bloodlines, temple schools, and oral traditions older than recorded surface history. Telepathy, mental healing, clairvoyant sensing, emotion-shaping, beast-command, and psychic combat are woven into their daily lives as naturally as writing, machinery, or electricity are used on the surface. To the Aalochi, the mind is the highest tool. Their leaders are often powerful psions rather than kings in the surface sense, and their priests, judges, healers, and warriors are trained to master the unseen powers of thought. A skilled Aalochi mind-speaker can call across miles of stone, calm a charging mastodon, share memories with a dying elder, or cloud the perceptions of an enemy. These abilities have allowed Aaloch’s people to survive in a perilous world of monsters, darkness, and scarce resources. The first Watchstar team discovered Aaloch early in their adventures, stumbling into the hidden world during an expedition beneath the Earth. Their arrival marked one of the first known contacts between Aaloch and the modern surface world. For the young heroes of Watchstar, Aaloch was a place of wonder and danger: a glowing underworld of psychic tribes, prehistoric beasts, ancient rivalries, and mysteries older than civilization. The superhero Sonira was born in Aaloch. Gifted with the formidable psionic heritage of her people, she left the subterranean world and adventured with Watchstar for a time, serving as both a bridge between worlds and one of the team’s most unusual members. Eventually, however, Sonira returned to Aaloch and to the distant people who had shaped her. Her departure left Watchstar with only a fragile connection to the world beneath the world, and Aaloch remains one of Earth’s greatest hidden realms. CCNav </div>
