The '''Bad News''' are, simply put, bad news.

The team first came together while imprisoned in [[Crucible:Vulture Island|Vulture Island]], the notorious superhuman detention facility operated by [[Crucible:PHASE II|PHASE II]]. What began as an alliance of convenience during incarceration quickly evolved into one of the most persistent criminal partnerships in the modern era.

Unlike many supervillain teams built around ideology, conquest, or revenge, the Bad News are motivated by simpler desires: money, excitement, and the sheer enjoyment of causing trouble. The group has developed a reputation for unpredictability, recklessness, and an almost pathological loyalty to one another. Even when captured, imprisoned, or scattered, they inevitably regroup after escaping custody.

The Bad News have carried out robberies, sabotage operations, assassinations, mercenary contracts, and acts of terrorism across the United States. In recent years, they have operated heavily in the New York area while serving as freelance operatives for [[Crucible:HAVOC|HAVOC]].

Their most recent criminal spree came to an end after a prolonged conflict with [[Crucible:The Night Shift|the Night Shift]], which ultimately succeeded in apprehending the group following a destructive series of attacks throughout the city.

== Reputation ==

The Bad News are widely regarded by law enforcement and superhero organizations as one of the most troublesome small-scale supervillain teams operating in the United States. Though lacking the resources of massive organizations such as [[Crucible:HAVOC|HAVOC]] or [[Crucible:Eclipse|Eclipse]], their unpredictability and willingness to escalate violence make them exceptionally dangerous.

Authorities have repeatedly noted that the team functions less like a traditional criminal syndicate and more like a dysfunctional family united by shared criminal instincts and mutual survival.

Their repeated escapes from incarceration have become something of a dark joke among heroes and PHASE personnel alike.
