'''Boogeyman''' is the monstrous manifestation of '''Bryce Randolph''', a wealthy industrialist whose lifelong fear of the dark transformed him into the very thing that haunted him. A creature of shadow and silence, he exists as both man and nightmare.

== Origin ==

Bryce Randolph had everything—wealth, influence, and control—except peace of mind.

From childhood, he was plagued by anxiety and irrational fear, particularly of the Boogeyman: the shadowy figure that waits in the dark, unseen but inevitable. Years of psychotherapy did little to alleviate his condition. If anything, his awareness of the fear only deepened his obsession.

Refusing to accept that his terror was meaningless, Randolph turned his resources toward understanding it. His search led him beyond psychology and into the occult, where he discovered an ancient text promising revelation.

The ritual he performed did not banish his fear. It ''answered'' it.

== Transformation ==

The ritual awakened something within Randolph—or perhaps drew something to him. His mind fractured, his body changed, and the distinction between fear and form collapsed.

He ''became'' the '''Boogeyman'''.

In that transformation, Randolph achieved what he had always sought: he would never again fear the thing in the dark. Because that thing was him.

== Reign Of Terror ==

As the Boogeyman, Randolph embarked on a killing spree across New York City. His attacks were sudden, silent, and seemingly impossible to predict. Victims reported only darkness, a presence, and then nothing.

The city responded with confusion and panic. Conventional methods proved ineffective against a foe who could move through shadow itself.

The Boogeyman did not stalk. He appeared.

== Defeat ==

The killings eventually drew the attention of [[Crucible:Overcoat|Overcoat]], who recognized that the threat was not purely physical. With the assistance of an apostate priest, Overcoat devised a method to confront and contain the entity.

The confrontation ended with an exorcism that separated—or suppressed—the force that had transformed Randolph.

Whether Bryce Randolph survived the process, or whether anything of the Boogeyman remains, is unknown.

Boogeyman possesses abilities tied to darkness and fear.
