Believe me, people tried.” <br>— Dark Cloud </div> Dark Cloud is the codename of MacIntyre “Mack” Casey, a reformed criminal whose encounter with an occult artifact granted him the ability to become an insubstantial, ghost-like presence. Once a small-time operator working the margins of the law, he now serves as a mercenary superhero with CounterForce, applying the same skills that once got him arrested to a very different line of work. == Origin == Mack Casey’s early life was spent in the lower tiers of the criminal world. He was never a major player, but he was persistent, adaptable, and good at what he did. Pickpocketing, safecracking, and opportunistic theft formed the backbone of his career. That changed when he came into contact with an occult artifact under circumstances that remain only partially documented. The object reacted to him in a way no one anticipated, altering his physical state and granting him the ability to become intangible. The transformation might have made him far more dangerous as a criminal. Instead, it brought him to the attention of the authorities. == Turning Point == Casey’s abilities proved useful enough that, when given the opportunity, he cooperated with law enforcement. His assistance led to a reduced sentence and eventual parole, marking the first real shift in his trajectory. Rather than return to his previous life, Casey made a pragmatic decision. His new abilities gave him options, and one of those options was to work on the other side of the line—at least part of the time. == CounterForce == When CounterForce was established as a more flexible, contract-based hero organization, Casey found a place within it. Assigned to the Seattle strike team, he operates as a specialist in infiltration, extraction, and situations where conventional methods are ineffective. His role suits him. He understands systems, weaknesses, and how to get into places he is not supposed to be. He just does it with permission now. == Powers == Dark Cloud’s abilities stem from his transformation into a partially ectoplasmic state. * Intangibility – Can pass through solid objects * Damage Resistance – Reduced vulnerability to physical attacks * Ectoplasmic Form – Ghost-like state allowing stealth and mobility These abilities make him particularly effective in confined or secured environments. == Skills == Casey’s background remains a central part of his effectiveness. * Expert pickpocket and safecracker * Skilled infiltrator * Familiarity with criminal networks and methods * Improvisational problem-solving He relies on experience as much as ability. == Personality == Mack Casey is pragmatic, informal, and quietly self-aware. He does not pretend to be something he isn’t, and he does not spend much time justifying his past. His sense of humor tends toward the dry and understated, and he approaches most situations with a mixture of caution and opportunism. He is not driven by ideals in the traditional sense, but he understands the value of staying on the right side of the line—at least most of the time. == Reputation == Within CounterForce, Dark Cloud is regarded as a reliable specialist, particularly for missions requiring subtlety. Among law enforcement, he is viewed with cautious acceptance, his past never entirely forgotten. Among criminals, he is something more complicated: a former associate who now works against them, with abilities that make him difficult to counter. == Legacy == Dark Cloud represents a particular kind of redemption—not a complete break from the past, but a redirection of it. His skills, instincts, and outlook remain largely the same as they were before, but the context in which he applies them has changed. For Casey, that is enough. </div> CCNav
