== Origin ==

In the years before the First World War, Gunther von Todt was known as a handsome and wealthy Prussian aristocrat with a fascination for science, engineering, and military innovation. Brilliant, cultured, and ambitious, von Todt moved easily among Europe’s ruling classes while privately conducting dangerous experiments into chemistry and advanced weapons technology.

His life changed forever during a catastrophic zeppelin disaster.

While aboard an experimental airship carrying a volatile chemical agent, von Todt was caught in a fiery explosion that killed nearly everyone on board, including his beloved wife. The disaster horribly burned and mutilated him, leaving his once-handsome features ruined beyond recognition. Stranger still, von Todt proved completely immune to the deadly gas released during the accident, surviving exposure that should have killed him instantly.

The combination of physical agony, grief, and psychological trauma shattered what remained of his sanity.

Emerging from isolation behind a grim metallic mask, he took the name '''Death's-Head'''.

Historians and intelligence agencies have long suspected that Death's-Head played a significant hidden role in escalating the political crises that culminated in World War I. While the war had many causes, Eclipse actively encouraged paranoia, nationalism, and conflict wherever possible.

To Death's-Head, war was not tragedy.

It was purification.

== Battle With G-Man ==

Death's-Head’s criminal empire eventually brought him into conflict with the American hero [[Crucible:G-Man|G-Man]], whose patriotic crusade against sabotage and corruption made him one of Eclipse’s greatest enemies.

Their rivalry culminated in 1920 inside a volcanic fortress created by Death's-Head himself using advanced geological technology. During the final confrontation, G-Man hurled the villain into the heart of the artificial volcano, apparently destroying him forever.

No confirmed trace of Death's-Head was ever recovered.
