CCHeader <div class="codex-page codex-page--crucible-comics cc-page--location"> = Drakaal = The Valley of Drakaal, sometimes called the Primeval Zone by outside scientists and government agencies, is a vast hidden region of Earth preserved from the Cretaceous Periodâan isolated âlost worldâ where dinosaurs still roam, ancient ecosystems endure, and time itself has been bent out of shape by alien technology. Though physically anchored to Earth, the Valley exists within a stabilized pocket dimension, accessible only through rare vibrational thresholds that modern science has only barely begun to understand. To those who have seen it, the Valley is not a myth. It is a world that never ended. == The Cretaceous Catastrophe == Approximately eighty million years ago, during the late Cretaceous Period, an alien spacecraft crashed in a remote valley north of what is now the Gobi Desert. The ship belonged to the Drakaâa, a now-extinct technologically advanced extraterrestrial species capable of interstellarâand interdimensionalâtravel. The crash was catastrophic. The vessel was crippled beyond repair, its crew mortally compromised, and its systems failing. In a last attempt to preserve life, the shipâs artificial intelligence activated an emergency chronal containment protocol using the remnants of the hyperdrive core. The result was far beyond anything the Drakaâa intended. Instead of generating a localized protective field, the system deployed a massive chronal force-shield over a region more than two thousand miles across. The field did not merely protectâit displaced. A vast portion of Earthâs surface was pulled partially out of normal spacetime and anchored within a stabilized pocket dimension. Everything within that regionâthe land, the atmosphere, the weather systems, and the living creatures present at that momentâwas preserved. The Valley became a world outside of time. == A World Preserved == Within the chronal field, the ecosystems of the Cretaceous continued uninterrupted. Dinosaurs, prehistoric plants, insects, and microbial life all survived the extinction events that reshaped the rest of Earth. Massive sauropods roam the plains. Predatory theropods dominate the jungles. Winged reptiles haunt the skies. The plant life is lush, alien to the modern eye, and often enormous in scale. The Valley is not a static museum. It is a living, evolving ecosystem that has had millions of years to adapt within its own closed conditions. Species have diverged. New ecological balances have formed. Some creatures have grown larger, stranger, or more aggressive. Others have vanished entirely within the confines of the Valleyâs internal evolution. To step into the Valley is to step into a version of Earth that never experienced extinction. == The Chronal Barrier == The chronal force-shield that defines the Valley remains active. It is not a visible wall but a vibrational boundary separating normal spacetime from the pocket dimension. Crossing this boundary requires very specific energetic conditionsâwhat researchers describe as a vibrational threshold. Ordinary physical travel cannot breach the barrier. Aircraft pass overhead without noticing anything unusual. Satellites detect nothing beyond minor anomalies. Ground expeditions fail to locate a stable entrance. Yet under rare and poorly understood conditionsâgeomagnetic disturbances, exotic energy exposure, experimental technology, or sheer chanceâindividuals have slipped through. These accidental crossings have occurred throughout history. Travelers, explorers, soldiers, and wanderers have vanished into the Valley, often leaving behind only fragmentary reports or legends. Few who enter ever return. Modern science has made repeated attempts to penetrate the barrier, but success has been limited. The energies involved appear to interact with quantum and temporal mechanics in ways that defy conventional models. The Valley does not simply exist elsewhere. It exists differently. == Human Presence == Despite its isolation, the Valley is not devoid of intelligent life. Human populations have existed there for millennia, descended from individuals who crossed the barrier at various points in history. These communities have adapted to the harsh, dinosaur-filled environment, developing survival strategies suited to a world where humanity is not the dominant species. Most human societies in the Valley exist at a neolithic level of technology. Stone tools, bone weapons, simple metallurgy in rare cases, tribal organization, and oral traditions define their cultures. Agriculture is limited and often dangerous. Hunting and gathering remain primary means of survival. Life in the Valley is precarious. Humans are not apex predators here. Survival depends on knowledge of the land, cooperation, and a deep respect for the forcesâboth natural and supernaturalâthat shape the environment. == The Drakaâa Legacy == The Drakaâa themselves did not survive the long isolation. Their species, never numerous within the Valley, eventually vanished. Whether they died from their injuries, failed to adapt, or simply faded into extinction over millennia is unknown. What remains is their machine. Deep within the Valley lies the wreckage of the original spacecraft, long overgrown by jungle and time. At its heart, the shipâs artificial intelligence still functions. Degraded but persistent, it continues to operate systems tied to the chronal field and to maintain fragments of its original directive: preservation. To the native populations, this machine has become a computer oracle, a mysterious and powerful entity capable of answering questions, granting guidance, and occasionally demonstrating abilities that appear divine. Its outputsâtranslated imperfectly through damaged systemsâare interpreted as prophecy, law, or magic. The oracle is worshipped. Its origins are forgotten. Its purpose is misunderstood. Yet it remains one of the most powerful influences in the Valley. == Magic And Mutation == The Valley is rich in unusual energies. The interaction between the chronal field, the Drakaâa technology, and the planetâs natural forces has created conditions where what might be called âmagicâ is both more accessible and more potent than in the outside world. Certain individuals among the native populations demonstrate abilities that defy conventional explanation: heightened perception, control over natural elements, communication with animals, or manipulation of energy fields. Whether these powers are truly magical, psionic, or the result of environmental mutation is a matter of debate among those few scientists who have studied the phenomenon. To the inhabitants of the Valley, there is no distinction. Power is power, and it is woven into daily life, ritual, and survival. == The Anthony Expedition == In the early 21st century, American paleontologist Harris Anthony and his pregnant wife discovered a hidden entry point into the Valley. Their crossing represented one of the few documented modern penetrations of the chronal barrier. The Anthonys survived their initial arrival but were unprepared for the realities of the Valley. Within months, both were killed in conflict with native inhabitants. Their infant son, Trent, survived. Trent was adopted by one of the Valleyâs tribes and raised within its culture. Growing up in a world of dinosaurs, ritual, and survival, he became something neither wholly of Earth-11717 nor entirely of the Valleyâa child of two worlds shaped by both science and myth. His story has become one of the most significant modern connections between the Valley and the outside world. == Isolation And Discovery == Draakal remains largely undisturbed by the modern world. Governments, research institutions, and private organizations are awareâat least in partâof its existence, but reliable access remains elusive. Attempts to establish stable gateways have met with limited success and considerable risk. Those who seek the Valley often do so for specific reasons: scientific discovery, lost knowledge, rare biological samples, alien technology, or the pursuit of individuals who have vanished into its depths. Others seek it for less noble purposes: exploitation, hunting, or the acquisition of power. Few succeed. Fewer return unchanged. == Reputation == To the wider world, the Valley is a rumor, a classified anomaly, or a legend whispered among scientists, explorers, and certain corners of the superhero community. To those who have entered it, the Valley is something else entirely: a place where time broke, where extinction never came, and where humanity must remember how small it can be. Dinosaurs rule the land. Tribes endure in their shadow. An alien machine dreams beneath the jungle. And the boundary between worlds waits, silent and unseen, for the next traveler to cross. </div> CCNav
