A drifter, outlaw, and sometime mercenary of the American Southwest, Dustdevil became known for violent rampages, destructive tornado-like attacks, and his long association with the supervillain gang known as [[Crucible:The Hellrazers|the Hellrazers]].

== Background ==

Corey Cantwell spent his childhood drifting through a bleak succession of Arizona orphanages, foster homes, and juvenile programs. Angry, isolated, and convinced the world had discarded him, Corey developed a hostile streak early in life and rarely remained anywhere long before getting into trouble.

He learned quickly that no one was coming to save him.

Puberty brought a second revelation.

Corey was a [[Crucible:Parahumans|parahuman]].

His mutant abilities first manifested during a violent emotional outburst that tore apart part of an orphanage dormitory with hurricane-force winds. Terrified staff and authorities treated him less like a frightened teenager than a natural disaster waiting to happen, reinforcing his growing resentment toward the world around him.

If people already saw him as dangerous, Corey decided he might as well live up to the reputation.

== Wanderer Of The Southwest ==

As a young adult, Cantwell drifted across the deserts and highways of the American Southwest, surviving through theft, bar fights, petty crime, and occasional mercenary work. His ability to generate localized windstorms and dust vortexes made him both difficult to capture and terrifying in combat.

During this period he crossed paths with the chaotic outlaw known as [[Crucible:Loco|Loco]], and the two briefly partnered in a spree of robberies, brawls, and superhuman mayhem stretching across several states. Their partnership was unstable but effective, fueled by mutual recklessness and a shared hatred of authority.

The pair eventually came to the attention of [[Crucible:Lady Hellfire|Lady Hellfire]], who recruited them into the outlaw supervillain gang known as [[Crucible:The Hellrazers|the Hellrazers]].

Within the Hellrazers, Dustdevil finally found something resembling belonging—though in the gang’s case, “belonging” mostly involved explosions, violence, motorcycles, and occasional felonies.

Dustdevil possesses powerful aerodynamic and atmospheric manipulation abilities.

Much of his criminal behavior stems less from ideology than from deep-rooted anger and abandonment issues carried from childhood. He expects betrayal, assumes authority figures are corrupt, and tends to lash out before allowing himself to trust anyone.

At the same time, he possesses a rough sense of loyalty toward people he considers fellow outsiders or lost causes. Among the Hellrazers, he developed a reputation as unpredictable but dependable in a fight.

He drinks heavily, plays loud music, and often acts like he does not care whether he lives or dies.

The frightening thing is that sometimes he really doesn’t.

Dustdevil became one of the most recognizable parahuman outlaws of the modern Southwest, embodying the dangerous collision of mutant powers, social neglect, and raw destructive emotion.
