Once one of [[Crucible:HAVOC|HAVOC]]’s most effective covert operatives, Fantasma later defected to [[Crucible:Factor M|Factor M]] after becoming convinced that parahumans would never find safety or dignity under ordinary human institutions.

Since her defection, she has become one of HAVOC’s most hunted former agents.

== Background ==

Liza Guerrero discovered she was a [[Crucible:Parahumans|parahuman]] during adolescence when her body unexpectedly phased through a solid wall during an emotional outburst. Terrified and unprepared for what was happening, her family reacted badly to her powers and the problems surrounding them. As the incidents continued, fear and resentment gradually replaced affection.

Eventually, her parents abandoned her altogether.

Liza spent the next several years moving through orphanages, institutions, and temporary placements, never staying anywhere long once her abilities manifested publicly. She learned early that fear followed her everywhere. People treated her less like a frightened teenager than like a dangerous thing they hoped would disappear.

One day, someone offered her a different future.

== HAVOC Operative ==

A recruiter connected to [[Crucible:HAVOC|HAVOC]] approached Liza with promises of belonging, purpose, and security. More importantly, HAVOC did not fear her powers. They valued them.

Under HAVOC’s supervision, Liza received extensive training in infiltration, espionage, sabotage, electronics, and covert operations. Taking the codename '''Fantasma''', she became one of the organization’s elite field operatives, specializing in missions requiring stealth, intelligence gathering, or assassination.

For years she operated against [[Crucible:PHASE II|PHASE II]], government agencies, and numerous superheroes, building a reputation as an almost impossible opponent to contain. Security systems, prison walls, and armored vaults meant little to someone who could simply walk through them.

Yet despite HAVOC’s promises, Liza gradually realized she was still being treated as a weapon rather than a person.

== Factor M ==

Fantasma’s worldview changed after meeting [[Crucible:Claw|Claw]], leader of [[Crucible:Factor M|Factor M]]. Unlike HAVOC, Claw spoke not of control or profit, but of survival, identity, and the rights of parahumans to exist without fear or exploitation.

For perhaps the first time in her life, Liza encountered people who understood what it meant to live as something the world regarded with suspicion.

She defected from HAVOC and joined Factor M soon afterward.

HAVOC considered the betrayal unforgivable.

Since then, Fantasma has remained one of the organization’s highest-priority targets, both because of her knowledge of HAVOC operations and because of the danger posed by her abilities.

Fantasma possesses powerful intangibility abilities.

== Personality ==

Fantasma is guarded, intelligent, observant, and deeply distrustful of institutions. Years of abandonment and exploitation taught her that acceptance is often conditional and temporary. Though she rarely shows vulnerability openly, she possesses a deep longing for belonging and community that ultimately drew her toward [[Crucible:Factor M|Factor M]].

Unlike some members of Factor M, however, Fantasma is not driven primarily by anger or ideology. She simply wants a world where people like her are not treated as monsters, tools, or accidents.

Unfortunately, years inside HAVOC also left her pragmatic and morally flexible in ways many heroes find troubling.

Fantasma became one of the defining stealth operatives of the modern age, equally associated with covert terrorism, parahuman militancy, and tragic questions of identity and belonging.
