'''Feral''' is a genetically engineered humanoid creature created in the laboratories of [[Crucible:Clone Master|Clone Master]] from a fusion of bear, wolf, and human DNA. Originally designed as a prototype guardian organism for Clone Master’s hidden bases, Feral escaped before he could be deployed and spent years surviving alone in the frozen wilderness. His later discovery revealed that he was an early stage in the same line of genetic research that eventually produced [[Crucible:Kodiak|Kodiak]] and [[Crucible:Blood|Blood]].

== Background ==

Clone Master created the Ferals as living security weapons: strong, fast, obedient, and capable of surviving extreme conditions while defending isolated laboratories and secret installations. The project combined human intelligence with predatory animal traits, drawing particularly on bear and wolf genetics to produce creatures with enormous strength, heightened senses, and savage combat instincts.

The final prototype did not remain under control.

Escaping Clone Master’s laboratory, Feral fled into the frozen north, where he survived in near-total isolation for years. Cut off from human contact and lacking normal social development, he lived more as a wild animal than as a person, hunting, hiding, and avoiding civilization whenever possible. Over time, stories of a strange beast in the wilderness began to circulate, though few believed them.

== Discovery ==

When Feral eventually emerged from seclusion and was discovered by the outside world, genetic testing revealed a startling connection to [[Crucible:Kodiak|Kodiak]]. Feral was not merely another monster created by Clone Master; he was a developmental predecessor, an earlier and less humanized experiment in the same genetic line. Later refinements of Clone Master’s work would produce beings such as Kodiak and [[Crucible:Blood|Blood]], whose bodies and minds were more stable and capable of functioning within human society.

The revelation made Feral more than a threat. To Kodiak, he was a disturbing glimpse of what he himself might have become under different circumstances.

== Conflict With Kodiak ==

Kodiak attempted to reach Feral, hoping that some measure of humanity or understanding could be awakened in the creature. The effort failed. Whether due to fear, rage, trauma, or simple inability to comprehend Kodiak’s intentions, Feral reacted violently and their confrontation spilled into New York City.

The battle between Kodiak and Feral was brutal and tragic. Kodiak was forced to fight a creature who was, in a sense, his own predecessor: a being created from the same cruel science, but denied the chance to become anything more than a weapon.

After the battle, Kodiak refused to treat Feral as merely another defeated enemy. Instead, he helped arrange a place for him in [[Crucible:Valley of Draka'a|Draka'a Valley]], where Feral could live apart from ordinary civilization without being hunted, caged, or exploited.

Feral possesses powerful genetically engineered abilities.

Much of his behavior is driven by fear, territorial instinct, hunger, and violent self-defense.

He is not evil in the conventional sense. He does not scheme, seek power, or knowingly pursue cruelty. His danger comes from what was done to him and from the fact that he was never given the tools to live safely among others.

In that sense, Feral is less a villain than one of Clone Master’s many victims.

== Legacy ==

Feral occupies a tragic place in the history of Clone Master’s genetic experiments. As the prototype that preceded Kodiak and Blood, he represents the raw and brutal stage of a line of research that would later produce more human super-beings.

His story also remains one of Kodiak’s most personal encounters, forcing the hero to confront the possibility that the difference between man and monster may sometimes depend less on nature than on mercy, circumstance, and who finds you first.
