== Background ==

Born heir to an immense European fortune, Guillaume D'Arc was recognized as a musical prodigy from childhood. By adulthood he had become one of the most celebrated pianists of his generation, admired for both technical brilliance and emotional intensity. Music was not simply his profession; it was the center of his identity, the source of his fame, and the proof of his superiority.

That life ended when D'Arc lost both hands in a catastrophic automobile accident. Surgeons saved his life, but they could not restore the delicate physical gifts on which his art depended.
