But I know what justice requires.” <br>— Jade </div> Jade was the superhero identity of Melissa Barnes, a New York attorney whose life was transformed when an alien crystal intelligence fused itself with her nervous system. Empowered by the mind and energy of an extraterrestrial warrior, she became a soaring cosmic hero of the Bronze Age and later a member of the Sentries. == Origin == Melissa Barnes was a young attorney representing a scientist who had come into possession of a strange meteorite. What appeared to be an unusual mineral specimen was, in fact, something far more extraordinary: a sentient green crystal computer imprinted with the mind and instincts of an alien warrior. When the crystal came into contact with Melissa, it bonded with her nervous system. The fusion was irreversible, granting her access to immense physical power, flight, and the ability to channel cosmic energy. It also linked her to the alien intelligence within the stone, giving her a legacy she had never sought. Taking the name Jade, Melissa chose to use her new abilities in the service of justice. == Heroic Career == Jade quickly became known as a high-flying and powerful superhero, combining courtroom discipline with tremendous physical and cosmic force. Her legal background shaped her sense of responsibility, giving her a strong belief in justice as something more than punishment or victory. She eventually joined the Sentries, where her power and determination made her a significant asset during the Bronze Age. == The Hero Wars == Jade was killed during the Hero Wars, one of the defining conflicts of the modern heroic era. Her death marked the loss of a hero whose career had only begun to reveal the full potential of the alien powerstone bonded to her. == Powers == Jade’s abilities came from the alien crystal fused with her body. * Superhuman Strength – Vastly enhanced physical power * Superhuman Durability – Exceptional resistance to injury * Flight – High-speed aerial movement * Cosmic Energy Control – Projection and manipulation of alien energy The powerstone functioned as both source and partner, making her abilities partly technological, partly biological, and partly something still not fully understood. == Skills == Before becoming Jade, Melissa Barnes was already accomplished in her own right. * Licensed attorney in the state of New York * Skilled legal advocate and negotiator * Strong analytical and ethical judgment Her legal training informed her actions as a hero, especially in situations where power alone was not enough. == Personality == Melissa was principled, intelligent, and composed under pressure. She did not view her powers as a privilege, but as a responsibility placed upon her without warning. Her legal career had already taught her that justice required discipline; becoming Jade gave her the means to defend that belief on a far larger scale. == Reputation == Among Bronze Age heroes, Jade was respected as a capable and rising figure whose combination of intellect and power made her stand out. Within the Sentries, she was valued not only for her abilities, but for her judgment. Her death during the Hero Wars remains part of the cost paid by that generation. == Legacy == Jade’s legacy is one of interrupted promise. Melissa Barnes was given the power of an alien warrior, but she brought to it the mind of an advocate and the conscience of a defender. She did not live long enough to become all she might have been. But what she became mattered. </div> CCNav
