First Appearance | UNITY LEAGUE #31 |} The Marauders are one of the most notorious and dangerous supervillain teams of the Silver Age. Based in Unity City, the group was formed by Mesmerio after suffering repeated humiliating defeats at the hands of the Unity League. Mesmerio eventually came to a simple conclusion: if heroes could unite into teams, then villains should do the same. Together, they could conquer Unity City, defeat the League, and finally enjoy the wealth, fame, and glamorous lifestyles they believed they deserved. The resulting alliance combined several of the League’s most colorful and dangerous enemies into a single criminal organization. The Marauders quickly became infamous for elaborate robberies, city-wide attacks, bizarre publicity stunts, and catastrophic battles against the Unity League. Though often chaotic and prone to arguing among themselves, the team’s combined powers made them a constant threat to Unity City throughout the Silver Age. == Members == <div class="cc-roster-grid"> <div class="cc-roster-card"> Mesmerio<br> Lorenz Van Snoot is a powerful mentalist and the scheming founder of the Marauders. </div> <div class="cc-roster-card"> The Harlequin<br> Gorshin McLown is the maximally made-up master of mayhem, specializing in chaos, trickery, and theatrical crime. </div> <div class="cc-roster-card"> Bullet<br> Lurton Borglund is one of the fastest men alive and serves as the team’s high-speed enforcer. </div> <div class="cc-roster-card"> The Beetle<br> Barney Furley is a heavily armored criminal bruiser who insists he “ain’t afraid of nuthin’, Mister!” </div> <div class="cc-roster-card"> Flint<br> Fred Rubble is an unstoppable and barely comprehensible powerhouse whose immense strength makes him one of the team’s greatest physical threats. </div> </div> == Reputation == The Marauders became one of the defining villain teams of the Silver Age due to their persistence, flamboyance, and repeated clashes with the Unity League. Though the group has been defeated numerous times, they always seem to return with another outrageous scheme, another elaborate robbery, or another attempt to seize control of Unity City. To many citizens, the Marauders embody the colorful madness of Silver Age supervillainy: dangerous, theatrical, absurd, and impossible to keep locked up for long.
