I almost felt that one.” <br>— Megawatt </div> Megawatt is the superhero identity of Nikolai “Nick” Shatalev, a Siberian-born parahuman with the ability to control and absorb electricity. A Chicago-based hero and former member of Aerocorps, Megawatt combines raw electrical power with a disciplined, close-combat fighting style. == Background == Nikolai Shatalev was born in Siberia, where his parahuman abilities manifested during adolescence. At first, his power appeared as uncontrolled electrical discharge: sparks, surges, ruined electronics, and the occasional painful shock to anyone standing too close. His family’s life changed again when Doctor Omega invaded the region. Fleeing the approaching armies, the Shatalevs escaped Siberia and eventually settled in the United States. For Nikolai, America became both refuge and proving ground. As a young man, he settled in Chicago and began operating as Megawatt. == Chicago Hero == Megawatt established himself as a local hero in Chicago, where his abilities made him particularly effective against armed criminals, armored vehicles, and energy-based threats. Unlike many energy projectors, he made a point of studying hand-to-hand combat, believing that a hero who relied only on powers would eventually meet the wrong opponent on the wrong day. That discipline became one of his trademarks. == Aerocorps == Megawatt later crossed paths with Protector during the pursuit of Blue Streak. The two heroes worked well together, and the encounter developed into a lasting friendship. When Protector later assembled the team known as Aerocorps, he invited Megawatt to join. Megawatt accepted, bringing electrical firepower and ground-level toughness to a team otherwise associated with high mobility and aerial operations. == Powers == Megawatt’s powers center on electricity and energy absorption. * Electrical Projection – Can hurl powerful bolts of electricity * Energy Absorption – Absorbs many forms of directed energy and converts it into usable power * Living Battery – Stores electrical charge within his body * Electrical Resistance – Highly resistant to electricity and related energy effects His ability to absorb energy makes him especially dangerous against opponents who rely on energy weapons. == Skills == Megawatt is more than an energy projector. * Skilled hand-to-hand combatant * Student of practical martial arts * Experienced urban crimefighter * Team combat experience with Aerocorps He prefers to end a fight decisively, whether with a lightning bolt or a punch. == Personality == Nikolai is tough, direct, and dryly humorous. His background as a refugee shaped his sense of gratitude and responsibility, but he does not wear either sentiment openly. He is more likely to crack a joke in combat than deliver a speech, and he tends to judge people by what they do under pressure. He is not flashy by temperament. The lightning handles that for him. == Reputation == Among Chicago heroes, Megawatt is respected as a dependable and hard-hitting ally. Among former Aerocorps members, he is remembered as someone who brought grit and practical combat sense to the team. Criminals tend to remember the smell of ozone. == Legacy == Megawatt’s story is one of survival, adaptation, and discipline. Born with power, displaced by war, and remade by choice, he became a hero not because electricity ran through him, but because he learned where to direct it. </div> CCNav
