The project produced startling results: several animals demonstrated advanced reasoning, self-awareness, speech, and emotional complexity.

Following a landmark legal battle, the enhanced animals were officially recognized as sentient beings with legal rights and released into society.

== Mr. Whiskers ==

Shortly after beginning his detective career, Monk encountered the criminal mastermind known as [[Crucible:Mr. Whiskers|Mr. Whiskers]], a malevolent enhanced guinea pig whose intellect rivaled his own. Their rivalry quickly escalated into one of the strangest recurring feuds in the modern superhero world.
